Make Herbal Skin Care Products at Home

There were times when herbs were the only way to take care of skin. With the development of chemistry and cosmetics people started forgetting about herbs and their power to take care of overall health. In the modern world herbal remedies are considered to be something exotic, they are rare and expensive.

Many skin care products which claim to be natural are not made of herbs. They might have good herbal smell or a shot of essential oil, but the majority of ingredients are still synthetic. As a rule these products are not even clinically proven safe to use which results in skin irritations, rashes and allergies.

There are two ways to go for a person that is anxious to take care of skin with natural products: either go to a specialty store which deals with chosen brands only and buy very expensive herbal skin care products or make those remedies at home. If you plan to buy herbal skin care products, check the list of ingredients thoroughly.

Working on your own remedies might take a little time and effort, but you will be absolutely sure there are no chemical additives in them. It is fine to experiment and try different combinations of herbs as long as they are proven to cause no allergies on your skin. However, some established recipes work even better. Here are a few home-made natural skin care products:

  • Facial Mask

This is really simple: use anything that you have. Mashed strawberries work really well on oily skin, and slices of cucumbers moisturize well. Fruits and vegetables should not be mixed with anything, simply apply them on your face and leave for about 20-30 minutes.

If you want to give glow to skin, mix half teaspoon honey with one egg white and a teaspoon lemon juice. Add Fuller’s Earth or Brewer’s Yeast. Apply the paste on the skin and remove after 20 minutes with water.

  • Body Wash

The simplest, cheapest and healthiest way to take care of skin is to wash it with morning dew. Rosemary flowers boiled in white wine make effective remedy for sallow skin and lighten it. Pineapple and papaya juices soften and moisturize skin well; this is why chefs use them for meat tenderizers.

  • Skin Scrub

Take one part of each: rolled oats, dried lavender and dried rose petals and pulverize them in a food processor. Add one part of cornmeal, one part of sea salt and two parts of facial clay. Mix well and keep it in an airtight jar. When ready to use, add a drop of rosemary essential oil and enough of warm water or Aloe Vera extract to make a thick paste. Wet your face with warm water and gently apply the scrub on the skin with circular motion. Leave the mixture on skin for a few minutes, and then wash off with water. Use the scrub once in every three days; in the other days just rinse your face with water.

  • Teas for Healthy Skin

Besides making masks and scrubs, drinking herbal teas is also beneficial for skin. Almost everybody knows how good green tea is for overall health. It also takes a good care of skin.
