Skin Care for Teens

As much as a person cannot grow up without hitting puberty stage, it is almost impossible to go through these years without experiencing acne problem for at least once. It is true that some teenagers get affected by this more than others, but it still bothers all young people because this is the time when they care about being attractive the most.
Hormonal changes during puberty are the reason for skin problems: skin starts producing more sebum or skin oil than necessary which clogs pores and results in pimples on face, neck and upper back. Although the problem is common, it should not be neglected. Acne is a serious trouble and might result in moderate or severe scarring.
Skin reflects person’s health just like hair and nails do. If there are problems with health or misbalance in something, skin will react first by changing color, overproducing sebum or on the contrary become dry. It works in the opposite way too: as soon as the health trouble is fixed, the skin gains softness, natural color and nice feel.
This is why some experts believe that acne can be treated by healthy well-balanced diet. The old saying “You are what you eat” goes first of all to skin. For example, strong smelling food like garlic does not only leave odor in the person’s breath, but on the skin too. This is why doctors even recommend eating Brewers Yeast products in summer to avoid mosquitoes: the insects can really scent it in the skin. As for the acne problem, even the experts who do not rely on diets and healthy eating in treating diseases say that chocolate, French fries and a few other products affect skin and cause acne in particular.
Low-fat diet full of fruits and vegetables is very beneficial for skin. It has a lot of vitamins and antioxidants which keep it soft and moisturized. Drinking plenty of fluids is another way to maintain healthy skin. First, skin requires high hydration; secondly, additional water provides a better quicker flow of nutrients to the follicles and blood cells.
Good skin care is also important for acne treatment. Harsh scrubbing and popping pimples have never helped to solve the problem. In fact, they might result in scars on the face and even higher sebum production.
It is good to reduce the amount of grease and dirt on the face as much as possible. For example, many people touch their face with hands without noticing and get the grease and dirt from doorknobs, money, and books. Constant contact with phone is not necessary either: a rare person would take care of the absolute cleanness of a phone, so grease, germs and bacteria build up there and then transfer to facial pores. Besides, constant friction causes breakouts in the skin’s main areas.
The teens are advised to stay away from oil-based cosmetics with blocks pores and products with fragrance which might cause allergies. Instead they should go for herbal remedies, moisturizers and oil-free cosmetics. And they should always remember to wash the most sensitive skin areas (face, neck, shoulders) at least twice a day with pure water without soap.
